It's official. Employees are being pulled by the groups for a meeting with Jake, Di and Steve with the announcement. Discuss.

Well, I'd like to say I told them so but..........oh hell, I told you so

Seriously though, that sucks for people who are still there. Heard they were offering transfers and severence? I don't think anyone there under 90 days gets severence pay do they? Hmmm.

My understanding is that everyone gets a minimum severance of 4 weeks pay or 2 weeks pay for every year worked there, whichever is greater.  They are offering assistance in finding future employment as well.  I must say that they are being fairly generous with their payout.  4 weeks pay, 100% bonus and vacation all paid out.

Came down to this: The company that is buying IP Relay already has something around here doing some sort of relay, so that could be the reason (that steve dude didn't know) so once it goes through (all the paperwork was signed last night) the center will be closed. They did offer to move to some other verizon center, don't know what they do tho. As said above, if we stay, we get the 4 weeks or 2 weeks per year, the unused vacation/personal time (I don't think sick time is paid? not sure) and also the STI bonus, and they said they are trying to consider us all "vested" so we keep the company matched stock and stuff, but they didn't know if that was going to happen to not.

We have at least 90 days, or when they do set a date to close, 60 days before that we will be informed.

They are also suppose to be bringing in some other companies to help us get employment afterwards.

I guess I do have to agree, they could have really screwed us just waited at the door to take badges. I have lost jobs over much less, so I do have to give verizon credit for this, if it all pans out. Maybe this will be a good move for everyone there, get a better job that isn't relay. Wish us all luck!

Yeah, really f'ing nice....nice that they either fired, or made it so bad for all the long-term tenured people they had to leave for their own health....if I hadn't quit in May they would've had to pay me (lets see 2 weeks severance times 8 years=16 weeks pay plus whatever) a big wad of money....know they didn't wanna do that.  So, let's see, we pretty much lean on the long-term tenured employees until they quit or until we can fabricate a reason to fire them.  Management got the word to get rid of the long-term people any way they could.

Told Jake A. when I left most of us knew they were glad to see us go so they wouldn't have to give us huge severance packages.   He laughed, ha ha, and denied it all the way out the door.   Two-faced lying sack of shit.  I knew it then and my opinion hasn't changed.

But I'm in a better place with a lot of nice people......you may think you're making out like bandits but don't kid yourself.   You're still screwed if you don't have another job to go to.  And don't even for a moment think that they really give a shit.  They don't.  Management all have nice cushy jobs with Verizon.....and you're all out of a job regardless of how much severance you have.

Funny thing too is in a meeting with Diane back in March, she said there was NO WAY the center was closing and she didn't know where those rumors would be coming from.  When they knew Relay was on the block since DAY ONE that Verizon bought us....and they would have known about this too.  Lying worthless bitch.

I'd be interested to see what kind of "help" they'll offer people...considering they did a piss poor job keeping people they had.

I'm interested to what's going to happen to the other centers.  Why should anyone in Memphis, Riverbank or Makati feel any sort of job security at this point?

Verizon = Devil

Relay needs REFORM NOW!

The thing about Diane saying this, and I'm not defending her or management, is that what she said about Verizon was true to my knowledge.  The company that bought us out is the one that doesn't deem Madison to be "necessary" NOT Verizon.

Fact : Verizon bought MCI with the intention of selling the IP Relay service.

Fact : Verizon didn't have any intention on closing down shop on IP Relay themselves as we made money for them.  So long as we were profitable, and we were, we would stay online until they sold our service at which point our fate would be left up to the company that bought us out.

Strangely, I don't hold anyone up in management with acrimonious regard.  From all accounts, Jake, Diane, Liz, Leah, Sup Staff, Traffic and the Tech department are all in the same boat.  None of them have jobs with the company once the last door is closed so we are all on equal ground as far as that is concerned.   Go ahead and call me naive (trust me on this, I'm not) but that much is true.

The company is going to be bringing in "job fair" type situations with local employers along with "recruiting" assistance in house.  Some rumors are that transfers within Verizon are possible if people are looking to relocate and start anew...Which is something I have tinkered with as it's nice to start with a clean slate.

As for me, I'm "good".  I've had all of my ducks in a row for some time now.  The only debate that I'm having is whether or not if I should stick around to gather my severance, bonus and vacation payout or just start my new job within the next few weeks.  Either way, I won't be sitting here empty handed.

From my perspective, this might be the best thing that happens to all of us currently employed there.  I hope and wish that once it's all said and done and the doors close that the former Verizon Madison Relay folks will be able to finally let it go.

And when I say, "Let it go," I mean let it go entirely.  Don't ever look back...Including this board.  Which is something I'm interested in with regards to all the old Verizon/MCI vets on this board.  Why come back if you're finally rid of the place that you hold so much hatred for?  I completely get why people come here if they actually walk through those musty doors in Madison but if you're somewhere else...

Why make yourself suffer anymore?  It's kind of like that over the hill, flabby or fat boxer who steps back into the ring against a much better and younger opponent...Why bother?  You've done your time and earned your stripes.

Be done with it and never look back.

Eh, maybe it's just me but trust me on this...I won't ever be involved with anything related to IP Relay once I stop getting checks from that joint.

Cheers, Madison Call Center.  In a strange way, you will be missed.

My final notes are forthcoming.  And I have a feeling that some of you may not like what I have to say but thems the breaks...
