I am a small business owner. We usually receivefraudulent relay calls in "bunches". Several in a week then none for a month then several in a week again. We have been handling them very professionally with something like this..."Hello We are happy to help you if you are deaf in need of our assistance. However, all of the relay calls we have received to date have been fraudulent." go aheadThe calleralwaysterminates thecall at this point--so we know that they are scammers. We do this as our first communication so that we can terminate the call as quickly as possible--to free up our time AND the operator's time.We are really getting sick of these calls but don't want to take the chance that we could really be talking to a deaf individual. Since 100% of the relay calls we get have happened as stated above, would we be really out of line to tell the caller off? This stuff is such a waste of our time and we feel really sorry for the operator who is caught in the middle. Can we let loose on these callers with both barrels or should we continue to handle it in a professional manner?

Simply make sure they are calling from a state-based relay or Hamilton (which requires you to make an acct before you can use their online relay). Generally any legitmate calls I have handled to businesses have ALWAYS been through state relay (tty) and not through IP Relay. You could POTENTIALLY get some from individuals using sidekicks, but, you could just ask the operator before relay begins if they're using a "wireless text device" or a computer. You could probably decline the call if they are not calling from either a sidekick or state relay and keep yourself safe.

What you are currently doing is very professional   keep doing that   the scammers wouldn't listen to your rantings anyway  as soon as the operator types  fraudulent   the scammer disconnects and calls back into relay for another try
