I guess I already know the answer but why don't the relay companies just block all foreign providers? That would eliminate almost all requests by the 419ers (most of them are waaay too stupid to use a proxy) and should technically not be a problem?

The relay companies try to make the public believe that they really care about the fraud, but all they care about is the dollar sign. If they were to block international callers then they would be losing a lot of money.

If the amount of fraud is the same now as it was a year ago- they'd lose at least 50 percent of their business.  I'd say it's closer to 75 percent, but I'm being generous.    If all the scams just suddenly went away, they'd be laying off operators right and left, and closing centers all over the country.

That's quite a shame as this is something that is technically *not* very spectacular and easy to implement - definitely one question that I'd like to ask the resident call-center managers/ceo's/whatsoever. You can't give me an email-address, by any chance?

By the way. Do you know many people are alltogether employed as operators (those ones that relay scam calls)?

They say they are...but I highly doubt it.  They say with the information they get from the calls that are documented, that they then block that IP address of the fraud person and they're gone.

I highly doubt that, since they'll openly say that with the SAME info they get for Abuse calls, all they do is "bump them" to the bottom of the queue if we're infact queueing calls.

They use the excuse that they can't deny service to people cause they might block a legit user.

I don't think it's really about blocking the fraud/abuse users as much as it should be about REGISTRING the Legit users.  If you do that, then the Fraud and Abuse dwindle exponentially and they can then honestly say they're providing a service for the people that NEED It.

Frankly in the last few weeks it's the Abuse calls that have skyrocketed versus the Fraud volume.    Implimenting a simple but fairly comprehensive registration process would fix so much of what is wrong with this service.

Even if they block most of the nigerians use AIM for their scams and everytime that u log out and log back in to aim it issues a different ip address so it defeats the purpose.
