Deaf or speach-disabled people would have to make a large scale push towards wanting the relay services to require proof of need. I believe they would have to convince the FCC to allow the companies to require proof of need.

what can be done to stop relay scam

I have taken it upon myself to call businesses that have been called by the scam artists to warn them of the potential dangers of doing business with them.  I dont give them any identifying info of who I am though  and I also use a different relay svc.  One business that i called actually laughed and said that they wld have the fbi trace my call.    What should I do?  I want to stop these fraudsters.

I'm speechless.

That business is absoultely f-ing ridiculous.  Apparently they'd rather take the chance at being scammed in order to make a few bucks.. rather than listen to the advice of an anonymous tipster trying to protect their business.  Ughhhh..

Unfortunatley that happens more then you would realize. I had someone (she owned her own nick-nacks type online store) argue with me on this. The sad truth is these people hear the large dollar signs dancing in their heads, and won't listen to rhyme or reason. In fact the "potential money" they would make on one of these sales could be more then they made all month.

The best thing to do is to suggest this website or any others (I belong to 419eater.com as well) when warning the business, this way they can quickly learn that others are scammed this way.

Also, if you have the "balls" to do so, I would rather personally call the business, or ask one of us here to help you (send a PM to someone with the details). Chances are this was the first relay call that the business received, and they may have been tired of it. Also, if you do use relay to cll them, they may never take a relay cll again.

1. Relay becomes a registration service, regulated just like normal phone services are.  The phone is NOT 100% annoymous (you can have your number unlisted or private) so Relay should not be either.  Given that most Relay is going away from TTYs and is internet based, the need for land lines for TTY's isn't there, internet is going towards high-speed and wireless, there is NO reason Relay should still be an annonymous service.

2. The FCC gets off their butts and actually REALLY takes some steps to really stop these calls and actually DENY SERVICE to these bastards.

3. Someone needs to educate the public about this stuff.

4. People need to stop being so STUPID!!  Especially with "love fraud".  How can people be THAT stupid?

5. We nuke Nigera.  Yes this is extreme, but really, it'd make our jobs a LOT easier.

I had such a nice series of fraud calls today. The first call was to a woman who had apparently just hung up on him, and when she picked up he went "Why'd you hang up on me huh?" and of course she hung up. I had to "redail" and it kept going to voice mail. The next person was too stupid to use relay or take his email address. And the third one was apparently wise to the whole thing, because he waited until relay started and then told the orig "I am not falling for your scam so don't call me again" and hung up The orig got so frustrated he disconnected. It was awesome.
