I work for a company with a web site, I received a phone call asking for one of the products, the lady usind relay call operatos told me she want to buy one of our steel boxes for $2100.00. I offered her to send more information and a quote via email, she gave me her email and I sent her the quote. Next day she call back using relay op. and told me she will buy one unit @ $2100. to send to herson in Alaska,that click my brain and gave me a signal that something is not right. I email her the info. and details and told her we accept visa & MC, she emailed me back credit card infor with her full, name, address, (she is in Oklahoma, buying a steel box for her son in Alaska, just trucking/shipping will be $3,000. more that the value of the product)credit card no. etc. but she requested from me "the authorization coded while she contacted the shipping
Tell your customer you need to verify their information for any transaction over $1000. Tell her you need her home phone number in OK and you will call her back to verify the info. If she is legit she will ask you to call her through relay. If she refuses to give a number then it is because you will recognize it as nigerian. If she gives you the number call her back through relay and verify her address, then call the credit card company and verify her billing address. This is easy to do and all merchants should protect themselves when they get a strange request over relay for a large amount of cash. But please do not just blow them off cause they called through relay.

Thanks Mr. MagoosCircus, I work for a company who sells Cargo Containers 20' long x 8' wide x 8.5' wide that can be ship by special roll on/ truck trucks, we also sell 40' long, we deliver them all over California and Nevada, but never as far as Alaska. thanks for the advise, we will implement it right away.

What is ur company policy on shipping to a different address other then the billing address? Nowadays its harder and harder to find someone to ship other then to a billing address. You may just tell ur scammer that u will only ship to the billing address

Thanks to all of you, today the woman buying the container disclose to me the scam plan, but THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who share your experiences on thw web, I am not falling for, nor the company here is her reply, I hope this will help to others too:
"Maty,
I am deaf so i dont have access to phone or fax,you can contact me with all necessary information via email and i have arrange with the shipping company also.
I have contacted shipping company for the pick up and they told me they will not be able to pick up the product because of its huge of the container .So they directed me to another shipping company which is Fairplay International Shipping Company,
who can pick up this container,they will come and pick up the container from your store when is ready.This shipping company are taking these container to the church ministry in Alaska ,the info i got from the Head Manager of the Shipping Company said,before pick up is scheduled,they will need a cash amount of $2500 to be wired to their headquarters through western union and then they will have their representatives in the states to come and pick up the container when ready.I try to make payment with my master card, But this Shipping Company do not accept credit card either cheque.So please i want you to run my new Mastercard number through for the $2500 and then i will provide you with the shipping companies address and the shipping address alltogether.They said they will need your stores full name and address so that they can have your info on their computer and then they will come for the pick up when ready.I am at working place and i cant pay the shipping company the cash amount of the $2500,due to my hearing inpaired i cant go to western union,that is why i want you to help me with this $2500 for the shipping company.This $2500 is just the handling fee.So run my Mastercard number now for the $2500 dollars and do add the compensation fee of western union which i think will be $150.Which will be $2,650 dollars.Thank you,they will fax you an invoice today ones money is wired to them,and they will come for pick up when the container ready and they are sending the container to Alaska.I hope everything is settled now.Email me so i can provide you with the shipping company's address and my mastercard info asap.Hope to hear from you soon.

The church ministry is a dead give away. They've been using that excuse for years. I'm glad to see you're definetely not falling for it. If your job is ever at stake because of this, always be sure to direct your employer here to show them about these scams. I'm sure that would clear it up.

It doesn't matter if they say they'll ship to that address.. They call the shipping company used and change the address right after the item has been processed... ( I'm a relay opr.. go thru it every day) the BEST THING to do, is ask for a phone number, and say, ok to further this transaction pls hang up and i will give u a call back on this nbr that you've provided me.... they'll most likely come up with a line of excuse as to the phone isn't working or i am not at this phoen right now.... but just make that policy.. all business should do that, i believe anyways..
