Got this one a couple of days ago, not sure if it s a new scam or just and old one that isn't used much anymore.
Relay caller calls up a private address, person answers and doesn't know how to use relay. I'm expecting either a prank call or a "do u have puppy for sale qgaga" message. Instead they ask "is this so and so" when the person answers yes they say "is ur bank nbr so and so" The person of course starts getting real edgy asking who this is and the text user says "i know who stole ur information its someone from ghana but i need u to come on yahoo to talk to me now" and then proceeds to spend the next 5 minutes trying to get the person to repeat back his yahoo address and meet him on yahoo instant messenger immediately.
I've never really seen this one come up before, is it a new scam or maybe just an old / rarely used one? I got the idea they might have just been phishing since the only thing they seemed to have was a checking number, maybe try to get the rest out of them...the verbiage, sentence structure, etc. all reeked of the standard fraud caller using GA as punctuation, ignoring most of what the person said in favor of repeating their email address and saying ok ga to everything they didn't understand. The person ended up disconnecting after repeating that they didn't have yahoo and an anonymous call later told them they should immediately change passwords on their accounts and tell their bank account to never accept a relay call from themselves, but I still wonder about it.
