A few days ago I found myself on a truly bizzare call. The text person was calling this hotel, talking to a woman who works there, saying she was the Grandmother of this guy currently staying at the hotel. As the call went on, it became more and more apparent this was a weird scam...the Grandmother is apparently wealthy, and wants the hotel lady to take good car of her grandson, borrowing him whatever money he needs, and she'll pay her back. The Grandmother says she will wire like $200,000 into hotel lady's bank account for the guy to borrow money from her, but the grandson needs $200 first currently. Oh, and find him a car. Grandma doesn't trust the grandson to ration the money properly, so if she could hold onto the money for him, and be his "angel," etc.
The hotel lady, fortunately, is not wanting to get herself in some crazy money situation, and is trying to offer alternative ways, but agrees to talk to this lawyer person of theirs. Who will also be calling via relay, because as the Grandma says she can then read over the conversation herself. So wow, is this dude staying at this hotel calling this lady up via relay to scam her, or what? And because of the Nigeria-style broken english of the Grandma, and the fact that the grandson is apparently playing at being deaf, I'm wondering if this is a Nigerian who's made it to America and is trying to get by with continuing to scam people, but in person?
