Am I the only one who's noticed the inrease in calls to banks with scammers getting information for people's bank/online accounts?
At first I thought it was just a coincidence that I had a lot of deaf people would couldn't remember their passwords, but now it's definitely a pattern. And I'm sorry to see that it WORKS most of the time.
Goes something like this:
Scammer says they don't have their online id, can't remmeber password, etc. Rep at the bank asks for ssn, acct nbr, address, etc etc to confirm identity. Well, the scammer and his stolen info knows just enough for the dumb ass rep to decide they've confirmed enough and give them the online info. I had one rep say she could only send a new password to the person's email, and then the person requesed to CHANGE their email address on the acct, and she freaking did it!
I can't beleive how little most of these banks ask for to confirm identity before handing out account numbers and online passwords. Some of them just ask for the ssn and that's it. Hello? Easily obtainable for scammers. Makes me wonder how many people's bank accounts are being wiped out .
They're clever too. They call once and say they don't remember their last withdrawl or deposit, the rep will say something like "ok..well it was at walmart...do you remember the amount? Ok, you have a direct deposit from BlahBlah warehouse..do u know the amount?" Then they don't know, of course, and hang up. BUT, then they call back and tell the rep "I have deposit from BlahBLah warehouse i not remember how much" so the rep thinks "oh! they're obviously the real person because they know that much. Ok! I'll give them all their info!"
UGHHHHHH!
Sick of it. Sick of it. Sick of it!
