I have a few questions since Verizon is changing over to Nordia/GoAmerica, I'm wondering if there's any Norida operators around here... Since Verizon is saying basically that they don't have any information [haha that's supposed to be our line..] about how Nordia is going to run the relay center, I'm curious as to their fraud processes and differences in how their system is run. From what I understand it's supposed to change over late this year [and hopefully I won't be working in relay by the time it does change over]. Anyway does anyone know if the fraud process is similar, the criteria or how the calls are taken by the supervisors [different scripts maybe?]. Also what the disconnect procedures are for state or IP calls. Verizon made up some bullshit rule about 10 minutes, a sup comes over and LOOKS at the call, 10 more minutes of waiting before it's disconnected and that's only if NEITHER party are responding... Which is especially frustrating when it's a fraud call to a pharmacy or any type of business for that matter who just won't hang up the call [of course THEY would still be responding, cause it's their job].Anyway if someone knows anything about Nordia it would be nice to know a little more than what the supervisors/upper management are telling us [which is pretty much nothing]. Thanks

I hit i711.com after the announcement around the first of the month and the operator didn't mind chatting with me for a couple of minutes, they're apparently way more relaxed there. Fraud doesn't seem to be a huge issue for them yet, they're fairly small relay wise compared to Verizon though...and since Fraud make up a good chunk of the profits that Verizon gets from relay, I imagine that they're going to want to keep some of that revenue coming in. Especially when it's so easy to hide behind the FCC and transparency while raking in the cash.

20 minutes to disconnect...is 20 minutes of billed time. Why not, it's only the taxpayers that get screwed while the kiddies have their fun. Responsibility is over-rated and the bottom line is king of all.

i'm a nordia relay operator... in general, their fraud process sounds different from what you all talk about here, as in we seem to get way less of the scam calls than other relay centers... because i'm sorta paranoid about these kinds of boards, it'd be better to email more directly about this, if you want a more detailed breakdown of what a nordia-run call centre is like to work at; plus we could all maybe help each other out. i'm part of the union at my centre, so email me at: unit.711@gmail.com if you like. that counts for anyone here. you can also check out our contract online, if you're curious, at:

We had fraud problems at Nordia over a year ago... GoAmerica or our IT dept managed to get something in place to more aggressively block their calls so now they are very, very infrequent. Prank calls... still a problem.

We're at full capacity so GoAmerica's sending our excess volume to a center Nordia has in the Philippines, which is making a lot of people here in Montreal are scared for their jobs. Nobody knows exactly what's going on, so you know how rumours fly. We have a big chunk of the CRS contract though, so I hope we're safe.

In terms of procedures, I don't anticipate them changing as we switch over. Because the majority of the people who run the center, for the most part, will remain.. I don't think GoAmerica will change much about the call center besides all the Verizon logos everywhere at the moment.

So.... we are said to be due to switch late october/ early november.

Im only worried about the benefits changing

and the pay dropping.

Verizon benefits for ro's... nice.

but being kinda like a contract thing... i don t know.  I m  set to take std leave in december so i m that much more worried.    If they leave the benfits alone and just clean switch it over then i'll be more than fine, i could care less who i actually work for.    MCI, Verizon, Nordia/Go America.  Blah.

I've been there for every transition and, for the most part, they've been consistent and things never really changed. I don't see any reason why it would change this time- so, you'll be fine, don't even stress it. Over the years, in terms of packages or pay, the only fall back was losing our monthly bonus, which was just that- a bonus. We received better vacation times, sick times, personal days, ect.
