Is there no recourse when someone is abusing the system for prank calls of a most irritating nature?

I would love to know who is behind calls I rec'd all day yesterday.    Isn't the operator aware of the content of the message he is forwarding?    And why would he do so ... when it is obviously just a nuisance call with nonsense statements and insults contained in the message?    What is my recourse?    Call the service?    Complain about the content of the call?    Will the sender be identified in any manner?    Apparently not, form everything I read ... they can remain entirely anonymous.    What if the message is threatening in some way?    What can you do in that circumstance?    What are the guidelines for operators when the content of the message is questionable?

Shouldn't some editing or common sense be used when transmitting derogatory or nasty statements to the receiver?

Having never gotten a call before ... I doubt I will ever accept one again ...

Seems this is a rampant problem with this service ... too bad.

We cannot do anything about the prank calls.  The stupid fact is it still counts as a real call.  You can simply hang up anytime you don't want the call, or just tell the opr calling you don't want to accept the call and hang up.  We'll just let the person know but if they want they can keep redialing all day long.  You can also ask for the custome server number and they may have a way to get your number blocked, don't know that.

We cannot edit the call at all.  Doing so and being caught will get us fired, end of story, regardless of the call.  Your best bet would be to play along and try to figure out who it is, then if you have some way of recording the call perhaps you can press charges on the person, although it would be hard to prove the voice since it's not them voicing.  Could always adminster a good old beat down, tho :)

866 735 0373  if you haven't called that nbr already that's our cust svc nbr I think they would be able to block any relay calls to ur nbr. Now if it's a business that's another story. It's against the law for businesses to refuse relay calls but they do it anyway due to the high amount of scam calls. Fucking nigeria it needs to be bombed.

Unfortunately there isn't much to be done with crank calls- voice or relay. My husband was driven crazy with a voice crank call. The phone company won't intercede much unless it a threat of major proportions. My husban  finally called the state attorney general's  office and they directed him to the FCC who directed him someplace else. I think finally the number was traced to a particuliar phone company but they didn't feel the calls reached the level of more than nuicence, so they suggested we change our phone number! After several months it stopped.

Unfortunately, I don't think the phone companies want their operators spending their time being a private phone blocking service. In addition, I have a friend who actually likes talking to telemarketers- who's to say a deaf person wouldn't feel the same (perish the thought).

Interestingly I haven't received any crank calls on relay or TTY (my husband gets that pleasure). I do have deaf friends who do. I think their numbers get out because they may give them out to chat lines, or other web based groups, although I don't know.''

I guess I'm pretty lucky, but I think soon my luck will run out. As v.o.i.p. takes over there will be even fewer ways to check up on callers and companies will be able to make hundreds or thousands of calls which can't be traced. It's all bound to get worse, I fear.

I work in the Canadian call center and luckly for us we can get pretty much any overly annoying prank call hung up on by a TM. One TM even likes to take over the calls to screw with the prankers (I hope that TM doesn't visit here which I wouldn't be surprised if they did)

i711.com calls are easy to get rid of since you can see if it is a wireless device you can just say that you recieced no messages and let the prankers type and re type and just keep telling the voice you got nothing and that somtimes if the call is comming from a wireless device they can disconnect and still appear to have a connection... easy.

or hang up

As it was mentioned, it's against the ethics of relay for operators to edit or censor relay calls in any way, shape, or form. This is mandated by the FCC, requested by the original users of the TRS, the deaf & Hard of hearing community for justifiable reasons. If I had a legitmate reason to use relay to communicate with the hearing world, I wouldn't want some random operator counseling me or the hearing person or reinterpreting what I'm typing!  A relay operator would be fired if he/she was caught editing or censoring a relay call.

As a heads up, 99.99999% of the time a relay operator only receives the requested number to dial, possibly a name to ask for.  Relay operators  don't know the name, phone number or screen name of the person calling you. They have no way of knowing that the text user is going to  type racial slurs, sexual content, "yo mama" jokes, or what have you!!  Because of the nature of IP Relay, ANYBODY who has your phone number could call you. It could be your best friend, your enemy, your sister/brother/cousin, hell it could be your parents prank calling you! If you don't want the prank relay call, be polite to the relay operator, and hang up. Keep on  hanging up when you receive the prank relay calls, and hopefully the jerks will get tired of it and find a different hobby!

The center I work at, we have to read what's typed word for word and type back what's being said word for word. Our center manager, god love him, is really good about coming over for an assist, listening for a minute like he's supposed to, then saying something  real quiet (but loud enough to be heard by the hearing person ... just) like "Okay, you think we've got enough to track this?" or asking "Agent Lees" if he's got the addresses yet.

Of course, panic and "Dude!! You said they couldn't track this!" followed by hang ups immediately follow.

Hi,
I saw a classiffied few days ago about prank calls - how to stop them. I didn't read it because I do not have the problems with prank calls - but maybe you will find out something interesting there. There is a link
http://www.usfreeads.com/1291444-cls.html

Besides to learn more about it - you know rules, tips and what is legal what is not you will find it out with Search engines - just put the right question there and you will get your answers.

Best of Luck

Ola
