I just want to point out that not just deaf/hoh use Relay. I am aphasic ... damage to the language center of the brain due to traumatic brain injury. I am speech impaired, both speaking and comprehending what is verbally spoken to me. I depend on TTY relay services to communicate.

The communities should be reminded that as the baby boomers age, there will be more victims of stroke (acquired brain injury, which can also result in speech and communication limitations), and ... more important ... the statistics are that 60 percent of the Iraq veterans coming home will have a brain injury. A large !!! percentage of them will have communication disabilities.

I appreciate these forums and other online communication out there, but please include us as well.

Welcome and glad to have you. I'm deaf but you're certainly right about the need to include everyone. I have a cousin who had complications after lung surgery and lost his voice- he uses relay. I also know of a young girl who can't speak after surgery on her throat. She was just miserable until the world opened up with relay. So you're right. I'm especially glad you're here as in many of the earlier posts D/deaf people have taken the hit for a lot of negative behaviors. Although probably 99.9% are acurate, maybe there are other users out there who also make things difficult ( or pleasant) for the CAs. Thanks for joining.
