From day one of working in relay (and i've been around a while) LIVE REP has been my numero uno irritant.
First of all, as was stated, deafies need to learn how to ask for what they want. The following phrases should become banned: liver rep, person alive, person speak, speak, talk person, and my favorie: live rep NOW opr!
That pisses me off.
First of all, like was said, a "live rep" could mean sooooo many things, cust svc, billing, tech support, reservations, appointments, etc etc. Saying "live rep" gets you no where. Try to provide more information. For example: "live rep in billing dept pls" or "live rep tech support for my sidekick pls". I don't appreciate being called STUPID by deafies all the time because their precious "live rep" isn't one of the menu choices. No sorry, I'm not the stupid. I'm not saying deafies are stupid either, but many are VERY ignorant about phone manners, manners in general, and well, the world in general.
Second, if I say there's "no live rep do u want to know the menu choices?", why do you say "REDIAL"?! Why am i readialing? I just heard the menu, i can type it for you NOW! If you type "redial" i HAVE to redial and spend an extra minute or two (while the you become more impatient) just because you're not getting it. DO NOT ASK TO REDIAL. I HAVE YOUR MENU CHOICES RECORDED. I WILL TYPE THEM FOR YOU.
Third, if I say a "live rep" is not available, and then i list the menu choices, please do NOT read them and then say "live rep" again! I already TOLD you its NOT AVAILABLE. You can tell me 1000 times and I will still say its NOT AVAILABLE 1000 times.
Fourth, please understand that companies don't like to have a "live rep" available immediately when you call. Why? Because employees cost money. Recordings? Dirt cheap. Most companies will do almost ANYTHING to keep you from talking to a live person. Many companies have special tty numbers you can call if you own a tty. I know some people don't, but keep it in mind. It will save you a lot of grief.
Finally, DO NOT insult, harass, or abuse the operator because you don't understand something. We're just doing our job according to guidelines that we HAVE to follow. If you need help understanding something or get confused, we are NOT ALLOWED to explain it to you. Please do not ask us to explain anything. We CAN'T. We will get in TROUBLE. All we can do for you is type exactly what we hear. That is all.
